Chandigarh, Sun Sep 02 2012

With just a fortnight left, ticket sales for the highly anticipated Davis Cup tie between India and New Zealand, to be held at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) Stadium, Sector 10, from September 14 to 16, began today. The international tournament, which is making a comeback to Chandigarh after a gap of 19 years, will also see home boy Sanam Singh play on the courts.
Priced at a meagre rate of Rs 100 ( for students), Rs 200, 500 and 1000 (for general public), the tickets can be purchased at various branches of State Bank of Patiala across Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and other parts of the country. “Not only from the Tricity; tennis lovers from all part of the country can purchase the tickets and watch the match in Chandigarh. For those outside Chandigarh, say Bangalore, they can go to the State Bank of Patiala branch from where they will get a receipt. They can then exchange the receipt with tickets at the branches of the bank at Chandigarh,” informed CLTA Patron-in-Chief Rajan Kashyap.
Also, for those who want to watch the singles and double matches on all the three days, the tickets would be priced at Rs 200 (for students) and Rs 500, Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 (for general). “We have made sure the tickets are priced at a low rate for students so that we can attract more sporting youngsters towards the sport. Also, 50 per cent of the sitting space would be reserved for students out of the 4,500 capacity of the stadium,” added Kashyap.
Meanwhile, those who want to watch Sanam Singh and company in action can purchase the tickets in State Bank of Patiala branches at Sectors 8, 17, 10, 22, 35 and the High Court. In Panchkula tickets are available at the bank branches in Sectors 8 and 20 while in Mohali tickets can be bought from Phase 7 and the bank’s SME branches. Also tickets are available at all 13 branches of the bank in the rest of the country.
Given the paucity of space and almost half of the seats reserved for students, the general seats would also be hard to get as fans from New Zealand have also requested for tickets. “Apart from the team members and officials, there would be plenty of fans from New Zealand who want to come and watch the match. We have received requests for a certain number of tickets and we have already reserved seats for them,” noted Kashyap.
Speaking about the the security arrangements, he said that the Chandigarh Administration, which has given the stadium to the association on lease, will provide adequate security for the smooth functioning of the event. “There should not be any problem as far as security is concerned,” he assured.
