Chandigarh crowned Punjab Inter District Champions

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Resuming at 456 for 6 Chandigarh went on to take their total to 560 for 8 in 196 overs before play was called off with Chandigarh being declared the winners with their first innings lead of 219 runs against Patiala. Chandigarh lost their overnight batsman Amit Prashar for 125 off 238 balls studded with 14 boundaries and 2 sixes as he was caught by Sarabjit Ladda off Rajwinder Singh. Gurinder unbeaten 48 and Siddharth Kaul unbeaten 19 were together at the crease before play was called off. Rajwinder Singh 4 for 137 was the principal wicket taker for Patiala . This win took the Chandigarh ’s point tally in the overall state championships to 20 for them to capture the top position in the Inter District competitions while Patiala with 11 points secured the runners up position. Chandigarh North and South Districts Athletics Championship

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Chandigarh 30 September: Chandigarh North and South Districts Athletics Championship will be held at Athletics Stadium, Sector-7, Chandigarh on 3rd October, 2012.   The events will begin at 12.30 PM. The Competition will be held in age categories of under 14 and 16 years for boys and girls.  The Athletes must be bonafide students or residents of Sectors up to 25 for North District. Where ever Athletes from for South District must be bonafide students or residents of from the Sectors 26 onwards can participate. The entries will be accepted on the spot and the athletes must produce original Date of birth Certificate and residence proof. During the Chandigarh North and South District Athletics Championships Teams will be selected for the participation in National Inter District Championships to be held at Haridwar from 3 rd   to 5 th   November, 2012.

2nd All India Under 19 Invitation Tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in 2 nd   All India Under 19 Invitation Tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy is set to kick start tomorrow with Vidarbha taking on Punjab at Dhruv Pandove Stadium, Patiala , Bengal taking on Orissa at Sector 16 Stadium, Chandigarh , Mumbai crossing swords with Kerala at PCA Stadium Mohali and MPCA to take on HPCA at DAV Sector-8 Chandigarh. All the matches are two days affair and will have a play of 100 overs per day. The matches would start at 9.15 a.m.    All the 8 participatings teams arrived yesterday and had extensive net practice at PCA Stadium Mohali and Dhruv Pandove Stadium, Patiala . The tournament will provide much needed match practice before the start of Under – 19 domestic season starting from 20 th   October.    The final of this tournament will be a four day affair and will be held at Dhruv Pandove Stadium Patiala from 10 th   to 13 th October,2012 according to Mr. Sushil Kapoor, Tournament Director.

Nalini ends title drought, Smriti and Vani tie for second in Hero-DLF GCC women’s golf

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Gurgaon, September 21:  Nalini Singh Siwach got her revenge and the first title this season as she clinched the Hero-DLF GCC event, the fifth leg on the Hero-WGAI Tour on Friday. Nalini, whose home course is the DLF Golf and Country overcame the nervousness of two double bogeys on the front nine and held her nerve in the closing stages with one birdie and five pars in the last six holes for a card of 75. Nalini totalled 217, four clear of Smriti Mehra (80) and Vani Kapoor (72), who were tied for second at 221. It was the season’s first win for Nalini, who is coached by Anitya Chand, also the coach for Vani. “It feels nice to finally win after coming close many times and it becomes even better because this is my home course,” said an elated Nalini, who was second last week. She was also third on two earlier occasions. For Vani it was her second runner-up finish and she has one win. In five events, there have been four winners, with only
