The school basketball team bagged second position in U-19 basketball event at the zonal level. At the district level, U-19 girls grabbed top position in U-19 badminton and yoga, while in table tennis the girls finished second.

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Chandigarh, Aug,28,2012 A 10-member Indian will participate in the     Paralympic Games -2012 be held at London (U.K.) from August 29 to September 9. The selection was     based on the quota places allocated to India by the International Paralympics Committee.     The team comprises five athletes, three powerlifters, one swimmer and one shooter. The team:   H.N. Girisha (high jump), Jagseer Singh (long jump),  Jaideep (discus), Narender  (javelin),  Amit Kumar (athletics), Farman Basha (powerlifting), Rajinder Singh Rahelu (powerlifting),  Sachin Chaudhary (powerlifting), Sharath M. Gayakwad (swimming) and Naresh Kumar (shooting). Shreeya Sharma  (Shishu Niketan-43)  and Eknoor   (St. Stephen’s -45)  secured silver and bronze medals with 30.80 and 30.40 points, respectively. While two new meet records were established in the men’s section, Harsimran Kaur of MCM DAV College, Chandigarh, held the spotlight in the women’s category by winning all the four gold medals at stake on the opening day of the Panjab University Inter-College Swimming Championship at the PU Campus pool here today. Karan Brar of DAV College, Chandigarh wrote a new meet record in 50 metres butterfly for men by clocking 27.70 seconds. Jasandeep Singh of PU Campus stole the show in the men’s 100 metres breaststroke for men as he clocked 1:16.88 to set new meet record. chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Chandigarh Sports News Blog Chandigarh: 27 Aug Prof. Anil Raina, Chairperson and Dr. Vipnesh Bhardwaj, Secretary Chandigarh Chess Association (CCA) called on Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Member Parliament and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs & Water Resources on Sunday to seek his valuable support for the cause of inclusion of chess in the Sports Gradation List of UT Chandigarh. They requested Mr Bansal to impress upon the UT Administration to examine the issue sympathetically. During the interaction with Mr Bansal, Prof Raina informed the Minister that perhaps Chandigarh was the only UT/state in the country where chess did not form a part of the Gradation List of the Sports Department. He also apprised Mr Bansal of the fact that chess was in the ‘Priority A’ category of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and it has already been provided Gradation by the Punjab Government. IAS Officers Association organised Walk the Lake

In the semi-finals, Surjit Hockey Academy prevailed over spirited CRZ School of Sonepat by 2-1 while CFH Academy eked out a narrow 1-0 verdict in their favour against SGS Vidya Mandir, Ratwar Sahib. Overnight showers had left some wet patches in the grounds which resulted in calling off play at PCA Stadium Mohali and GMSSS Sector 26 without a ball being bowled.  Chandigarh got 3 points for their first innings lead while Patiala logged one point. In the second match Mohali and Jalandhar shared one point each as the first innings could not be completed due weather interference which resulted in loss of play of more than 90 overs. Rashid Khan edges out Vikrant Chopra in a playoff

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in COIMBATORE, AUG 25   Rashid Khan held his nerve to edge out fellow Delhi golfer Vikrant Chopra in a playoff to win the PGTI Players Championship at the Coimbatore Golf Club on Saturday.   Rashid Khan (70-67-70-75) bagged his second professional title after victory on the third playoff hole (18 th  hole) against Vikrant Chopra (72-67-70-73). The two golfers ended the regulation 72 holes with identical totals of six-under-282 and had to therefore head into a playoff to decide the winner. Both golfers made pars on the first two playoff holes. Rashid finally clinched the title by converting a 20-feet birdie putt on the third playoff hole even as Vikrant missed his 25-feet birdie putt. Rashid and Vikrant were the only real contenders on the final day. chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Ravi Parmar of local DAV College faced a stiff challenge from Gurmej Singh and Amit, both of Sri Gobind Singh College,Chandigarh in the men’s section of the Panjab University Inter-College Cross Country Championship held today. Ravi Parmar clocked 42:35.15 seconds while close on his heels was Gurmej Singh who took 42:42.28 for the silver medal. Amit clocked 42:47.49 for third individual position. SGGS College won the team championship with 42 points. DAV College, Chandigarh, J.C.D. D.A.V. College, Dasuya  and G.K.S.M. Govt. College Tanda Urmar secured second, third and fourth positions with 70, 134 and 156 points respectively. Harpreet Kaur of GTB Khalsa College, Dasuya  cornered glory in the women’s category as she clocked 18:09.34 for the individual title. DPS Chandigarh clinches Tennis Nationals

In second match Rahat Manrai of DPS,  Chandigarh  beat Ashmita of DPS, Navi Mumbai in straight sets 6/3, 6/2. Charvi Saxena of DPS Chandigarh was declared the 'Player of the Tournament' while Megha Roy of DPS   Megacity , Kolkatta was declared 'The Most Promising Player' of the tournament. Charvi Saxena has 59th rank in AITA U-16 Girls Category.

CFH Academy face SGS Vidya Mandir in semis

Applications invited for National Youth Awards

As per the eligibility criteria the ageof individual should be between 13 to 35 years, on the  April 1 of thefinancial year, for which award to be conferred. CGA Junior Golf on August 25 and 26

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in The first CGA Juniors Golf Tournament will be played on August 25 and 26 at Septa Golf Course at Chandimandir here. This year the response is very encouraging and at the close of entries, there are a total of 80 participants in all categories. Competitions will be held in five categories – A (15-17 years), B (13-14 years), C (             11-12 years), D (8-10 years) and E (5-7 years) While A,B,C and D categories will be playing 36 holes over two days, category E will play 9 holes a day for two days. Apart from the winner in each category, there will be prizes for 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up as well. All participants will be given a gift hamper of golfing items like T- Shirts, golf balls and golf cap. Rashid Khan takes control in round three

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in   Rashid Khan of Delhi took control in round three of the PGTI Players Championship at Coimbatore Golf Club after he returned a two-under-70 to move his tournament total to nine-under-207. Rashid now leads by two strokes from second-placed Vikrant Chopra, another Delhi golfer, who also fired a 70 on Friday.  Rashid Khan (70-67-70), the overnight joint leader, played a steady front-nine as he made nine straight pars. Rashid then picked up the pace with birdies on the 10 th , 13 th  and 15 th . He made a couple of good chip-putts on the 10 th and 13 th  and made an amazing recovery from the bushes on the 15 th  to land his shot within six feet of the pin. Seema Antil and Jai Bhagwan promoted as Inspectors

Hooda takes a jibe at Vijender at felicitation function

chandigarhsportsnews.blogspot.in Chandigarh: It was a felicitation function meant to honour him but Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda created quite a flutter by taking a jibe at star boxer Vijender Singh's "under-performance" at last month's Olympics in London. At a function organised by Haryana police to honour its seven sportspersons for their performance at the London Games here, Hooda took a potshot at Vijender who was sitting among the players who were honoured. "No doubt Vijender is an excellent boxer...but you (Vijender) stop taking tours (other than boxing) to perform much better," Hooda said pointing to the strapping six-footer during his speech. Hooda was apparently referring to Vijender's stint in television shows and modelling assignments. "Tu tour laganey band kar de (you stop taking tours)," Hooda said.
