19th ALL INDIA J.P. ATRAY MEMORIAL CRICKET TOURNAMENT FOR PEARLS TROPHY

The 19th Edition of All India J.P. Atray Memorial Cricket Tournament for PEARLS TROPHY will be held from 15th to 25thSeptember,2012 at PCA Stadium Mohali, Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, Chandigarh, DAV Sector-8,Chandigarh, LIC Cricket Academy GMHS Sector 26 Chandigarh, St.John School Sector 26 Chandigarh and Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium Patiala. The tournament will be played under the auspices of Punjab Cricket Association and is recognized by the BCCI.  It is the curtain raiser before the start of the domestic season. PEARLS Infrastructure Projects Limited Mohali have been the principal sponsors from 15th Edition of the tournament.

According to Mr. Sushil Kapoor, Organising Secretary of the Tournament, 16 leading teams from all over the country are taking part in the tournament, which will be played on league cum knock out basis.  All the matches will be of 50 overs each innings.  PCA Panel Umpires and Scorers will be detailed for the matches. S.G. Test (Red) Cricket balls will be used for day matches. The final will be played at PCA Stadium Mohali on 25th September,2011 under lights and with coloured clothing. White SG Test Balls will be used for the finals. Doordarshan will telecast Live the finals on their DD Sports Network.  Winners will get a Cash Prize of Rs. 2.00 lacs along with winners trophy and Runners up Rs.1.00 lac with runners up trophy. There will be man of the match award for each Match. Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Player of the Tournament will be awarded during the finals of the tournament. The tournament will be played under the BCCI Rules of One Day Cricket.

The teams have been  divided in four pools and top two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter finals. Baroda Cricket Association, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, DDCA President’s XI, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, Indian Oil Corporation, Mumbai, BPCL Mumbai, Air India Delhi, Reliance Industries Mumbai, All India FCI Delhi, MRF Chennai, SBOP Patiala, PCC, PCA Colts, State Bank of Hyderabad, CAG Delhi and ONGC Delhi are  the teams figuring in the tournament. There will be 31 matches including the finals in this 11 days cricket tournament.

According to Mr. Chander Shekhar, Chairman Organising Committee all arrangements have been put into place for a successful conduct of the tournament. The inaugural ceremony of the tournament will be held at Sector 16 Stadium Chandigarh with a match between Reliance (India) and All India FCI. M/s Pearls infrastructure Projects Ltd. are the main sponsors of the tournament.  The other co-sponsors are M/s Preet Land Promoters and Developers Pvt.Ltd., Mount Shivalik, Coca Cola, Just Sports. Mr. Chander Shekhar said that this would be a good opportunity for cricket fans of tri-city to watch upcoming players in this 11 days of exciting cricket involving 31 matches including the day and night finals. The star players taking part for various teams are M.S.Gony, Rahul Sharma, Akash Chopra, Rahul Dewan, Karan Goel, Ajankya Rahane Shikhar Dhawan,  Parthiv Patel, Ravinder Jadeja, S.Sriram, Venugopal Rao, Wasim Jaffar, Mohd.Kaif, Paul Valthati and host of other young players. He further said that this tournament has been a lucky launching pad for young cricketers who have gone up to play at the highest level. Parveen Kumar, Rahul Sharma,Ajayankya Rahane and Chiteshwar Pujara are the latest additions in the list of successful players . He hoped that some more youngsters will make it to the top.
