Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today promoted athlete Seema Antil and boxer Jai Bhagwan as Inspectors of Police and said that Police Department would given Rs. 51 lakh to wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, who has won broze medal in the 2012 London Olympics and Rs. 11 lakh to each of other six players of the Police Department. These six players are boxers Vijender Singh, Vikas Krishan and Jai Bhagwan, hockey players Sardara Singh and Sandeep Singh and athlete Seema Antil. These cash rewards would be in addition to those to be given by State Government.
Mr. Hooda, who was speaking at an impressive function organized by the Haryana Police Department here today to honour its seven players who had participated in London Olympics said that cars would also be gifted to all players of Haryana who had participated in London Olympics. A special function would be orgainsed at Sabji Mandi, Gohana on August 26, 2012 to honour all those players of Haryana who had participated in London Olympics. Earlier, this function was to be held at village Bhanswal in district Sonipat, but the venue had now been change in view of the rainy season. He said that the players of Haryana have brought laurels not only to the State but also to the country with their scintillating performances in the recently concluded London Olympic Games.
While pointing towards the number of medals won by the country in Olympic Games, Mr. Hooda said that earlier, we used to win gold medal in hockey only but now the players were winning medals in other events also. It was a beginning in the development of the country, added Mr. Hooda . He said that Haryana’s population is about 2 per cent of the total population of the country, but there were 18 players from Haryana in the Indian contingent of 81 players, which is a big achievement. Seven of them were from Haryana Police and no such organization in the country has this much number of players representing the country in a prestigious sports competition like Olympics.
Mr. Hooda said that in 2004 Olympics, players of Haryana did not win any medal, but in 2008 India won three medals out of which two were won by players of Haryana. Now in 2012, India bagged six medals and four of these have been won by players of Haryana. He said that for 2016 Olympics, the target for Haryana has been fixed at 12 medals. The increasing graph of the medals is a clear indicator that our players are fast progressing.
He said that the State Government has created more congenial atmosphere for promotion sports in the State as sports play a pivotal role in shaping the future of coming generations and special emphasis was being laid to encourage the children to take interest in sports along with education. The State Government has implemented a Sports Policy having three aspects of infrastructure development, talent hunt and an assured future. Mr. Hooda said that to identify sports talent in rural areas, about 200 Rajiv Gandhi Rural Sports Stadia were being constructed. Out of these more than 150 stadia have been completed whereas the construction work of remaining sports stadia is in progress. Apart from this, about 800 coaches were also being recruited for providing coaching to the players in different sports. Also, SPAT programme has been implemented to groom the sports talent at young age of 8 to 19 years. He said that the State Government has also included ‘ Padak Lao Pad Pao’ in its Sports Policy to ensure secured future to the sports persons. By ensuring secured future to the players, we could develop world’s best player, he added.
Speaker Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Mr Kuldeep Sharma and Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Mr Sukhbir Kataria were all praise for the steps taken by the State Government under the leadership of Mr Hooda to promote sports in a big way in the State. They said that the results of these efforts were revealed in last Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and now London Olympics.
Director General Police Mr R.S.Dalal also spoke on the occasion. Among others present included Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Ram Kishan Fouji, MLA Mr Sampat Singh, Political Adviser to Chief Minister Prof. Virender, Additional Principal Secretary, Mr Shiv Raman Gaur, Additional Chief Secretary,Home, Mr Sameer Mathur, Additional Media Adviser Mr Kewal Dhingra and other senior officers of State Government, a number of sports persons and members of families of those honoured.
