PPP model for sports infrastructure in Haryana

Chandigarh: The Haryana Government is considering a proposal to adopt Public-Private-Partnership model for infrastructure development for various sports and to urge industry to adopt different games.
Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda told that “as per the Sports Policy, the State Government has laid emphasis on three factors. These are providing better infrastructure, talent hunt and an assured future to the players”.
He said that the government plans to build as many as 204 stadiums at village level costing Rs 150 crore of which 154 stadiums were almost ready. The recruitment of coaches for these stadiums was under progress. It was also under consideration to handover the responsibility of maintenance of these stadiums under Public-Private Partnership Mode. With a view to enhance sports skills, Sports and Physical Aptitude Test (SPAT) has been started under which lakhs of children falling between age group of eight and 19 years were participating. Under SPAT, 5000 children were given scholarship ranging between Rs 1500 to Rs 2000.
Similarly, Fair Play Scheme had been started providing scholarship ranging between Rs 1500 and Rs 8000 to needy players. In addition to it to ensure their better future, 398 players have been provided with Government jobs including 17 Deputy Superintendents of Police. Many players have been appointed as Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and Constables in the Police Department as per their abilities.
State Government is setting up academies for different sports in the State including Boxing academy at Bhiwani, Lawn Tennis and Badminton at Panchkula and Athletics at Rohtak, Kabaddi at Jind and Sirsa, Men hockey at Sirsa, Football at Gurgaon, wrestling at Sonepat, Volleyball at Amin in district Kurukshetra, basketball at Kiloi in district Rohtak. He said that academy for women hockey is being set up Shahbad.
Upbeat over performance of Haryana sports persons in London Olympics, he said that as four out of six medals won by India in recent London Olympics have been clinched by sportspersons hailing from Haryana or associated with the State, he has high hopes from them for the next Olympics to be held in Brazil in 2016.They must work hard and start preparation from now, he added.
He said despite being a small state with 1.5 per cent of total area of the country and about two per cent of the total population, the sportspersons of Haryana had won between 33 per cent and 66 per cent of medals in Common wealth Games, Asian Games and Olympics. He reminded that India had won only one medal in Sydney Olympics in the year 2004 and in Beijing Olympics in the year 2008, India won three medals and two of these were won by players of Haryana. Now in London Olympics, Haryana has won four medals
