IPL 2020 : Sanjay Manjrekar requests BCCI, include me in the commentary panel for IPL 2020

‘I will stick to the guidelines laid out by you’, this is what Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has communicated to the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) Apex Council. According to a report in TOI, Manjrekar has written an email to BCCI requesting them to include him in the IPL 2020 commentary panel. The IPL 2020 is all set to start from Sep19th to November and former India batsman wants his name to be included in the commentary panel.

The report claims that they have a copy of email in its possession and it is Manjrekar’s second attempt to make peace with BCCI after a fall-out during the 2019 World Cup.

“Respected members of the Apex Council, hope you all keeping well. You are already in receipt of the email I sent to explain my position as commentator. With the IPL dates announced, bcci.tv will pick its commentary panel soon. “I will be happy to work as per the guidelines laid by you. After all, we are working on what is essentially your production. Last time may be there was not enough clarity on this issue. Thanks very much, Regards,” Manjrekar has written to BCCI as per the report.

Former India batsman-turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, was removed by the BCCI from its commentary panel in March this year just before the India-South Africa ODI series  which was cancelled mid-way due to Covid-19. As reported earlier by InsideSport in the month of March, Manjrekar was sacked from the BCCI commentary panel after a few players in Team India complained to the Board about his controversial “bits and pieces” comment on all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja during the Workld Cup in England last year.

Recently for 3T Cricket game in South Africa also commentary was done virtually by Irfan Pathan from his Baroda home, Deep Dasgupta from Kolkata and Sanjay Manjrekar from his Mumbai residence.

But according to a report, Sunil Gavaskar is set to travel to the UAE for his TV commentary duties the IPL. It was being speculated that Gavaskar, now 71, may be asked by broadcaster to do “virtually commentary” from Mumbai. But Sunny Bhai as he is lovingly called by the cricket fraternity will travel to UAE for commentary on IPL 2020.
