Another setback for Lankan Premier League, BCB declares ‘no Bangladesh player will be granted NOC

No Bangladesh players, including star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, will feature in the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) in Sri Lanka, in what looks to be a fallout of the eventual postponement of the Test series between the two nations over COVID-19 regulations.

After postponement of Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka, now Bangladesh Cricket Board has declared that no Bangladesh cricketer will participate in the Lankan Premier League. According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan, be it Shakib or anyone else, NOC (No Objection Certificate, effectively a permit) to play will not be granted to anyone.

“I don’t see any possibility. And at the same time, we also are going to host domestic cricket,” Nazmul Hassan said replying a question regarding Shakib’s participation in LPL. ”I don’t think there is any possibility to see Bangladeshi cricketers taking part in the LPL, because at that point of time we will have domestic cricket and they will be engaged here,”

Shakib is currently serving a ban imposed by the ICC due to failing to report corrupt approaches made to him. However, his ban will come to the end in October. The LPL 2020 is scheduled for 14 November to 6 December 2020.

The new franchise-based league was originally scheduled to be held in late August was rescheduled for November 14 to December 6. But as reported  by InsideSport earlier is all set to be postponed once again due to the mandatory 14-day quarantine, which forced postponement of Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka boards were forced to postpone a three-match Test series which was scheduled to take place from October 24. As per the regulation of the Sri Lanka government, everyone entering Sri Lanka needs to maintain a 14-day quarantine. BCB had asked their counterparts Sri Lanka Cricket to trim this period to seven days, but Sri Lanka’s government refused it.

BCB said it’s not possible for them to continue with this tour maintaining the health guidelines provided by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). While Sri Lanka tour is postponed, BCB is eying to host domestic cricket from mid-October. Shakib might resume his career with domestic event once his ban is over on October 28th
