IPL 2020 : Chennai Super Kings team member to InsideSport, “We are in state of shock with positive Covid-19 results”

The IPL 2020 is off to a rocky start. The shocking news of more than dozen Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad members testing Covid-19 positive has completely rocked the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.

According to one of the squad member of CSK who agreed to speak to InsideSport on strict condition of anonymity declared that they are in a ‘complete state of shock‘ with the development.

“We are in a complete state of shock and very scared. We took every possible precaution and followed the BCCI guidelines to hilt, still virus has stuck the team”, said the CSK squad member.

InsideSport asked him, how many members of the squad have tested positive ?

“Honestly, we are not very clear about it. No one from the team management has officially informed us anything. But what we are hearing is 13-14 members of our entire squad have tested positive and some results are still awaited”

InsideSport again checked from him about the identity of the members who have tested positive. But he showed his complete discomfort revealing the names but confirmed 2-3 players also may have tested positive.

“We don’t have much knowledge on who exactly has tested positive. I am hearing 2-3 squad members, few support staff members and our CEO’s family member has tested positive”, declared the CSK team member exclusively to InsideSport.

InsideSport again asked him, is Deepak Chahar one of the player ?

“I think Chahar is one of the player”, confirmed the CSK member.

IPL 2020 : BCCI, CSK yet to officially release a statement on the development

The entire CSK squad is in isolation currently for the next 7 days. The most surprising part is both the BCCI and the CSK management are completely tightlipped about the development.

No one knows the reason – Why ?

InsideSport repeatedly called BCCI & CSK officials for their official take on the development. But they stayed incommunicado.

According to the sources, the CSK team is currently completely isolated and will stay in quarantine for the next 7 days. Meanwhile the BCCI’s medical team along with the local authorities have already commenced ‘contact tracing’ so that virus does not spread any further.

Those who failed the test underwent another one on Friday, conducted by the Dubai health authority and the BCCI.

The names according to the sources will be released officially on Saturday.

IPL 2020 : When can CSK team start practice for IPL 2020 ?

After 7 days quarantine period, team will be tested again and if the results come negative they will be allowed to enter IPL 2020 Bio-Secure Bubble, a secure environment where the players will have to wear wrist bands so that their movements can be tracked.

As for the CSK players and support staff who have tested positive now, they will, according to the tournament’s SOP, be isolated from the squad and be quarantined for two weeks after which they will have to clear two COVID tests before becoming eligible to compete.

But they still have an opportunity to recover and be available for the first game.
