COVID-19: JLN Stadium to be converted into quarantine centre in Delhi

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, which has hosted the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1982 Asian Games and 2010 Commonwealth Games, will be converted into a quarantine facility to deal with the rising Coronavirus threat in the national Capital.

District Magistrate of the South East Delhi, IAS Harleen Kaur, using her special powers under the Disaster Management Act of 2005, has ordered to take over the biggest sports facility in Delhi with the immediate effect.

The stadium premises will be used to quarantine the suspected COVID-19 careers or people who are feared to be Coronavirus positive.

More than 300 people have been taken for the Coronavirus test in Delhi on Monday, the day national Capital has registered maximum number of COVID-19 positive cases. The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Delhi has risen to 92 on Monday evening with 25 more people testing positive during the day.

The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal last week had stated that the State has prepared a programme to prepare to deal with the Coronavirus spread in three different stages.

The first stage were to have readiness to deal with the 100 positive cases per day. In the second stage the  Government has planned a readiness for 500 cases a day and the worst case scenario included strategy for 1,000 cases in a day.
