Tejaswini misses final by a point in ISSF World Cup

Tejaswini Sawant missed out on qualifying for the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions final by a point as China and Russia continued their dominance in the ISSF World Cup. Tejaswini finished 12th after shooting 1167 in the qualification. China won the gold in the event to go top of the medals tally with a total of four gold.

India joint sixth in doping violations 

India maintained their dubious record of being among the top- 10 nations with regards to doping violations being joint sixth as World Anti-Doping Agency published its report as per samples collected in 2016. India have 69 Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRV), the same as that of Russia. India has significantly improved their position to sixth after being joint third for three years in a row. Italy topped the rankings of drug cases in 2016, accounting for 147 ADRVs, followed by France (86), United States (76), Australia (75), Belgium (73).

Aditi starts with a round of 73 in LPGA Mediheal golf 

Aditi Ashok made a good start with a birdie on her second hole, but dropped a bunch of bogeys on the next few holes to turn in a 2-over 38 in the first round of the LPGA Mediheal Championship. Starting from the back nine, Aditi had four bogeys between the 12th and 18th. She played more steady on the second nine with one birdie and no bogeys to finish at a 73 and was tied-63rd on the opening day. Rounds of 4-under 68 put Lydia Ko, Caroline Hedwall, In-Kyung Kim, Jessica Korda and Su Oh on top of the leaderboard.

Gangjee makes cut in Japan 

Rahil Gangjee made the halfway cut at the Japan Golf Tour’s Crowns Tournament in Nagoya despite a round of 3-over 73. At 2-over 142 for 36 holes, Gangjee is now tied-57th and made the cut on the line. Gangjee had three bogeys in the first six holes and turned in a 4-over 39 that included a double on par-4 eighth. On the back nine, he birdied the 10th and 17th, but gave away another shot on the 18th.

Kapur shoots 68 but Bhullar best Indian in Beijing

Gaganjeet Bhullar stayed as the best Indian despite a sharp fall in the second round, while Shiv Kapur shot the best round among his compatriots with a bogey-free 68 at the Volvo China Open. Bhullar, who was in the top-10 at the end of the first day, shot an even par 72 with four birdies against four bogeys and at a 4-under for 36 holes, he is tied-22nd. Kapur (68) made up for his first round 73 and at a 3-under total, he is now tied-35 alongside Shubhankar Sharma (69-72) and Arjun Atwal (69-72). Khalin Joshi (71-71) at tied-50th was the fifth Indian to make the cut. Ajeetesh Sandhu (72-76), SSP Chawrasia (75-75) and Jeev Milkha Singh (77-77) missed the cut, which fell at a 1-under 143.

Neeraj recommended for Khel Ratna, Seema for Arjuna 

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been recommended for the country's highest sporting honour --- the Khel Ratna by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Javelin thrower Annu Rani and discus thrower Seema Antil Punia have been recommended for the Arjuna Award. The federation has also nominated PT Usha and youth team coach Sanjay Garnaik for the Dronacharya Award. Bobby Aloysius, Kuldeep Singh Bhullar and Jata Shankar have been recommended for the Dhyanchand Award, while TP Ouseph's name has been sent to the ministry for Life Time Achievement Award.

Brazilian football boss Del Nero gets life ban  

The suspended president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Marco Polo Del Nero, has been banned from football for life by FIFA’s ethics committee for bribery and fined one million Swiss francs ($1.01 million), the global soccer body said on Friday.
