An FIR has been filed against Sushil Kumar and his supporters by the elder brother of wrestler Parveen Rana.

Naveen Rana filed the FIR at the IP Estate police station on Friday night. This was after he was checked and treated for his injuries.

Parveen, along with his brother, was beaten up by some of Sushil’s supporters allegedly for fighting dirty on the mat. Sushil first defeated Parveen and then saw off another Railways man, Jitender, to seal his place for the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Asian Wrestling Championships.

The FIR has been filed under sections 323 (for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. “The FIR has been lodged against 6-7 known and unknown persons. We have initiated the inquiry,” IP Estate’s SHO Ravinder Kumar told The Tribune.

Neither Parveen nor his brother was available to comment on the matter.

Sushil, meanwhile, said that he had not heard anything from the police authorities. “No I haven’t received any call from the police or any such authority, though I am aware that a complaint has been lodged,” Sushil told The Tribune. “I don’t know what to do in this matter. I don’t know how to react to all of this,” he added.

Conspiracy?

Sushil, however, stopped short of calling it a conspiracy. “Everybody who was there saw how he was trying to hurt me,” Sushil said.

“He first bit me and then tried to hurt my knees. It all feels funny to me. This could have been planned before. I could have reacted there on the mat, but I didn’t. I don’t know why I am being dragged into this controversy,” the two-time Olympics medallist said.

“I feel strange at times. Someone else is doing something wrong and I get dragged into it. This is not correct. And by the way, how can I be held responsible for every act that is being committed? Yesterday, even I was being pushed around by the crowd,” he added.
