Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Sumit Nagal entered the second round of the qualifying event at the Tata Open Maharashtra. Gunneswaran started off with a 6-4 6-1 win over Jayesh Pungliya, while Nagal eased past doubles specialist Divij Sharan 6-2 6-3.
Carlos Taberner beat Vishnu Vardhan 5-7 6-2 7-6.
Meanwhile, India’s top singles player Yuki Bhambri got an easy first match, while Marin Cilic and defending champion Roberto Bautista Agut got first-round byes.
Bhambri will face world No. 608 Arjun Kadhe. Ramkumar Ramanathan, another Indian wild card, will meet world No. 106 Roberto Carballes Baena. Second seed Kevin Anderson, the US Open finalist this year, has also got a bye. — PTI
