PSG extends eSports presence with RRQ partnership

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) ESports has announced expansion of its operations to South-East Asia with the formation of a new team for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in association with Rex Regum Qeon (RRQ).

Rex Regum Qeon is Indonesia’s based leading eSports organisation in South-East Asia. PSG ESports, established in 2016, is the eSports arm of the Paris Saint-Germain Football Club. As a team, RRQ had started with Dota 2 in 2013. It has since competed in eight different games. With this partnership, the team has been rebranded as PSG.RRQ.

The Indonesian eSports company and France’s Ligue 1 club PSG have joined hands to launch Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

This is PSG’s fifth eSports association. The ace French football club had first joined FIFA, followed by League of Legends, then Rocket League and Dota 2. PSG, however, has left the competitive League of Legends scene in 2017, citing concerns on the revenue sharing model. For Dota 2, the team partnered with Chinese team LGD Gaming in 2018 and rebranded as PSG.LGD. Since then PSG.LGD has had a good showing with a runner-up finish at The International 2018, earning about $5 million.

In a statement, PSG ESports Chief Gaming Officer Yassine Jaada shared that Mobile Legends currently has 43 million players. He added that with almost 50% of players being from Indonesia, entering this game was a no-brainer.

In the same statement, Team RRQ CEO Andrian Pauline said that the team is both honoured and proud with the collaboration considering the PSG brand is one of the most admired in the world. He said that this partnership is a benefit for the Indonesian eSports scene and hopes that it good results for both RRQ and PSG fans will come.

The complete roster of the new PSG.RRQ team include Muhammad “Lemon” Ikhsan, Diky “Tuturu”, William “Liam” Setiawan, Try “AyamJAGO” Sukardi, Chen “James” Jui Teng, and Calvien “InstincT”.

PSG had shared the team on its official Twitter handle @PSGeSports

With this, the team hopes to win the ML:BB Professional League Indonesia Season 3. The tournament not only has a prize pool of $100,000 but also serves as a qualifier for the upcoming ML Southeast Asia Cup.
