Dhoni, Kohli smash Pant, Bumrah banters out of park

Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli have come up with fitting replies to Rishabh Pant and Jaspreet Bumrah in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 pre-season banter as the franchisees and Star Sports build up intense rivalries.

Host broadcaster Star Sports has upped the ante for the IPL Season 4, set to start on March 23. Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings host Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season opener – the high octane Dhoni versus Kohli drama. The two legends of IPL and Indian cricket have some harsh advise to offer. Albeit, not to each other. But to two youngsters, who had dared to tease the master craftsman.

These light-hearted banters otherwise should have been dismissed as commercial marketing campaign gimmicks. But for their creativity and Star Sports intense marketing initiative, these two TVCs deserve special mention.

The Star Sports campaign series starts with Rishabh Pant thought provoking challenge to Mahi.

The sequel next has a TVC featuring Jaspreet Bumrah. Hailed as the best bowler of his era, the bowler with unorthodox action is shown dreaming to uproot the timber behind the “world’s best batsman”. Beware Cheeku (Kohli) Bhai,” is the scripted warning from Bumrah.

Kohli is not the ones to take banters lightly. The next part of the video series brings to the fore “tit for tat” trait of King Kohli. Hearing the response, Bumrah would be gasping for some breath if the situation were real. “Don’t expect any favours this time,” is the warning.

Pant had shown all respect to “Guru” Dhoni even while warning to rain runs against his team. Mahi supporting his trademark smile shows Pant his real place and who belongs to which position.

If Kohli and Dhoni are proven pros, the young duo of Bumrah and Pant is laden with ‘X’ factor. Their presence in the middle can send the TRPs soaring. The success of this quartet will also go a long way in ensuring Star Sports success to achieve commercial games.
