BCCI Curators Certification Course Inaugurated

Mr. M.P. Pandove, Chairman NCA  and Specialized Academies, BCCI inauguratedthe BCCI first Curator’s Certification Course at PCA Cricket Stadium,Mohali.  30 participants from 30 affiliatedstates of BCCI have sent their representatives to attend this 21 days course.  BCCI had laid down the criteria of one curatorfrom each state association for this course and the member associations wereasked to send their main curator for this course.  Mr. Pandove while addressing the participantsemphasized the long awaited need of this kind of course for standardizing andupgrading the wicket laying and ground maintenance procedures at all thecricket playing centres. He stated that the idea of this course was to lay downa certain standard for preparing of wickets all over the country. The focuswould be to prepare good cricketing wickets which would have something foreveryone i.e. fast bowlers, spin bowlers and the batsmen. He said that it hadbeen seen that Indian Team’s performance abroad had not been very encouraging, becauseback at home the tendency was to shy away from making fast and bouncy tracks.  He said that this vast country had differenttypes of soils which would make the character of wickets in different centres invarianceto each other like the western part of the country has red soil whereassouthern and northern parts have the black soil. 




He emphasized to the participantsthat the curators job was an integral part of the cricketing system and was asimportant as that of an umpire, coach, trainer or a match referee. He hopedthat this course will go a long way in updating the knowledge of the curatorsand will help them to make better pitches and grounds in their respectivecentres, which in turn will be a great help in enhancing the performance of thecricketers in the domestic circuit particularly the bowlers. He was sure thatthe Curator’s Certification would also give an opportunity to those, who clearthis in terms of financial gain and recognition. He advised the participants totake advantage of this to assimilate as much knowledge and know how from thefaculty and use it in their respective areas of operation.
