Transgender runner creates history for qualifying for final in 400m

Valentina Petrillo, a visually impaired Italian athlete, made history as the first openly transgender athlete at the Paralympic Games, advancing to the T12 400-meter race final. Diagnosed with Stargardt disease at 14, Petrillo resumed running inspired by Pietro Mennea and began her gender transition in 2019, promoting inclusivity in Para sports.
