World Cup 2019 LIVE: Tendulkar opens a new innings

Sachin Tendulkar is back. On the grand occasion of the ICC World Cup. On a grand stage. The man who for two and a half decades let his willow speak made his debut with a microphone in hand.

As Tendulkar’s contemporaries enriched cricket with their unequivocal views from the commentary box during LIVE cricket broadcast, the Master Blaster always gave an impression that was not his cup of tea. The notion stands shattered now. The man who showed his Master Class with the bat when still in his mid-teens, has allowed himself good five years between hanging his gloves and picking up the microphone.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar debuted in the new avatar an hour and half before the start of the ICC World Cup 2019 inaugural encounter, featuring hosts England and South Africa, on the pre-match analysis show.

Star Sports has dedicated a special segment ‘Sachin Opens Again’ as the legend stepped in for the pre-match show – both for the Hindi and English broadcast. Panellists in the box are excited with the arrival of the Little Genius.

The broadcaster has before the start of the show shared a series of tweets from cricket legends, who showered rich praise to welcome the Maestro for his new innings.

The icon who would always invoke the debate for being the best batsman in the Sachin Tendulkar era, Brian Lara rates Sachin on a par with the all-time great sports legends. “He is to cricket what Michael Jordan is to basketball and what Muhammad Ali is to boxing.”

Rahul Dravid,  another legend in his own right, takes pride for having played alongside Tendulkar. “Even if my grandchildren don’t remember the fact that I scored 10,000 runs in one-day and Test cricket, they will talk about the fact that I was his teammate.”

Andrew Flintoff aptly described Tendulkar’s arrival as “a grand event needs a grand opening”.

Sachin’s presence during the World Cup 2019 between May 30 and July 14 will go beyond the Star Sports programming. He has also inked a deal with India’s leading Hindi news channel Aajtak, where he will join the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Harbhajan Singh and Madan Lal as an expert.
