WFI announces central contracts for wrestlers, permanent broadcast deal on cards

The Wrestling Federation of India will become the first national sports federation under the aegis of the Indian Olympic Association to offer central contracts to its players.  At the meeting, chaired by Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, in the Capital WFI commercial partners Sporty Solutionz in the presence of elite Indian wrestlers announced several key measures to ensure a 360° growth of wrestling.

“We are moving closer to realise our dream of making wrestling financially self-sufficient support – not just for the federation but also for the players. With this vision we had signed  Sporty Solutionz as our worthy commercial partners. I am glad to share that Indian wrestling is inching closer to realise that dream,” said the WFI president.

With a view to ensure financial security to the players and ensure their focused growth the WFI will offer central contracts to the players.

“It is a welcome step for the growth of Wrestling in our country. I am delighted that even the junior wrestlers will be able to reap the benefits now. It would be a huge boost,” said double Olympics medallist Sushil Kumar.

The other key initiatives include a complete revamp of the domestic wrestling calendar with introduction of  new events.  The WFI commercial partner Sporty Solutionz will ensure a permanent broadcast partner for the sport of wrestling. The other initiatives include a professional approach to enhance the fan base for the sport, while also increasing the participation at all levels.

WFI Commercial partners Sporty Solutionz presented a complete roadmap for commercial growth of the sport in India that will ensure a financial security for the athletes and the sport.

“WFI president Brji Bhushan Singh had been working tirelessly to uplift the sport to the level that could also ensure financial security to the players while providing them with right exposure. We as the commercial partners felt the sport has all the ingredients to succeed commercially. It just needed to be channelized in that direction. We had icons, a strong fan base, a tradition for the sport and a modern approach that is seeing the emergence of our girls as world champions. We are fully confident and have a vision to make wrestling the next big thing in Indian sports,” said Sporty Solutionz CEO Ashish Chadha.

The Tata Motors-WFI sponsorship deal, facilitated by Sporty Solutionz, was the first major step in the direction of giving the sport a commercial identity. The WFI and commercial partners are now working in the direction of making some more landmark announcements soon.
