Big Bash League: Hobart Hurricanes sign Cadbury as official shirt sponsor

Australian Big Bash League franchisee Hobart Hurricanes has announced British chocolates and confectionery brand Cadbury as their official major partner.

Starting with the 2018-19 season, Mondelez International-owned multinational brand will serve as the official shirt sponsor of both men’s and women’s teams of Hobart Hurricanes based in Tasmania. The length and financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Cadbury is also an Official Partner of the state governing body Cricket Tasmania.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cadbury’s logo will feature on the chest area of the Hurricanes’ shirts as part of the deal, which also names it as the official chocolate and confectionery partner of the team.

The partnership was officially announced at Cadbury’s Claremont Factory in Hobart by Cadbury parent company Mondelēz International’s Category Director of Chocolate for Australia and New Zealand Kjetil Undhjem, Cricket Tasmania Chief Executive Nick Cummins and Hobart Hurricanes General Manager Phil Rigby.

Alongside them, representing Cadbury’s new on-field ambassadors from the Hobart Hurricanes, were BBL men’s team captain George Bailey with teammates Simon Milenko and Riley Meredith, plus WBBL women’s players Erin Fazackerley, Stefanie Daffara and Brooke Hepburn, who enjoyed a specially assembled purple-themed cricket match on-site with VIPs and factory staff.

Cadbury will also work with Cricket Tasmania, the Hurricanes Foundation and the State’s 47,000-plus cricket participants across 137 clubs as their proud fundraising partner, helping to raise more money to support cricket within local communities.

All parties will also work together to create a Volunteers Recognition Program to reward those many hardworking individuals around Tasmania who give their time, effort and money to keep their local cricket running.

Cricket Tasmania CEO Nick Cummins, said, `“We are genuinely thrilled to welcome Cadbury onboard as our Official Chocolate and Confectionery Partner of the Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania, and will proudly feature their logo on all our male and female Hurricanes’ playing shirts.”

“The timing of this partnership is perfect with our BBL and WBBL fixtures just released, and exciting times ahead for the club and our code with new Head Coaches, new players, record cricket participation levels and the Tasmanian Tigers men and Hobart Hurricanes men coming off Grand Finals last season.”

“Cadbury has a long and proud history in this State and we are looking forward to joining forces with our own history and the passion of our Tigers faithful and the Hurricanes’ fast-growing Purple Army.”

“I’m sure both organisations can’t wait for the big summer of Tassie cricket ahead that is truly going state-wide for the first time with Big Bash matches in Hobart, Launceston and now Burnie in the North West.”

Cadbury’s Category Director of Chocolate for Australia and New Zealand Kjetil Undhjem, said, “This coming together of two uniquely Tasmanian brands was meant to be – not only do Cadbury and the Hurricanes share a heritage and passion for this State, we also share the passion for purple!”

“We’re very proud of our Tasmanian history, where we’ve produced Cadbury chocolate and used local milk for more than 95 years, and this partnership is a further demonstration of our commitment to the State.”

“Collectively we’ve had a presence in Tasmania for almost 250 years, and over the decades our brands have brought families together, creating many moments of joy.”

“Our product is proudly made in Tasmania by Tasmanians, and we look forward to partnering with the Hurricanes to share even more moments of joy with Tasmanians, from Hobart right up to Burnie – and especially with our own employees, who can look forward to some wonderful cricket initiatives.”

Hobart Hurricanes General Manager Phil Rigby, said, “With Cadbury, expect to see even more glorious purple at Blundstone Arena, especially as we work together on some exciting game-day activities highlighted by a Cadbury Christmas Eve clash extravaganza.”

“Plus there’s our huge ‘pet project’ – creating the family fun ‘Cadbury Hill’ around the old scoreboard on the eastern side of the stadium.

“So our members and fans and their young families and kids will have plenty to look forward to this summer on the field with our players, around the grounds with our event entertainment, and off the field with some major joint digital and social media content in the pipeline.”
